Dermal Filler
Understanding this treatment:
At Emerge, our approach to dermal filler is centred on individual facial anatomy, balance and natural-looking results. Following a thorough consultation, we can discuss whether dermal filler may be appropriate for your concerns and which areas, if any, may benefit from treatment. Depending on your anatomy and goals, different areas of the face may be considered.
Lip Filler
Lip filler may be considered by clients wishing to enhance lip volume, improve definition or address asymmetry. Treatment planning takes into account your natural lip shape, facial proportions and desired outcome, with an emphasis on a balanced result.
Cheek Filler
Cheek filler may be used to add volume and definition to the mid-face. It may be considered where there is reduced cheek fullness or where additional structural support could help create a more balanced facial profile.
Chin Filler
Chin filler may be considered to improve chin projection, definition or symmetry. Depending on your facial anatomy, it can help create a more balanced relationship between the chin, lips and nose.
Jawline Filler
Jawline filler may be considered by clients looking for greater definition along the lower face. Suitability depends on your existing bone structure, facial proportions and the type of result you wish to achieve.
Nasolabial Folds
Nasolabial folds are the lines that run from the sides of the nose towards the corners of the mouth. Filler may be considered to soften their appearance in suitable clients, following assessment of the surrounding facial structure and the underlying causes of the folds.
Marionette Lines
Marionette lines extend from the corners of the mouth towards the chin. Depending on their depth and the surrounding anatomy, filler may be considered to soften their appearance and support overall lower-face balance.
Perioral Lines (Smoker's Lines)
These are fine vertical lines that can develop around the lips due to factors such as natural ageing, repeated muscle movement and changes in skin quality. Filler may be considered in selected cases to soften their appearance, although not everyone is suitable and other approaches may be more appropriate.
Your Consultation Comes First
Every face is different, and dermal filler is not suitable for everyone or every concern. At Emerge, we take time to assess your facial anatomy, discuss your expectations and explain the potential benefits, limitations and risks before recommending any treatment. Dermal fillers can cause complications, including infection and vascular occlusion. Your safety and informed consent remain central to every decision.
FAQs
-
Dermal fillers are injectable gels, commonly made from hyaluronic acid, that can be used to add volume, enhance definition or soften the appearance of certain facial lines. The suitability of treatment depends on your facial anatomy, skin and individual goals.
-
We strive for natural-looking results. Treatment planning should take your natural facial proportions, anatomy and preferences into account. The aim is to develop an appropriate treatment plan rather than simply adding volume. Results vary between individuals, and no particular outcome can be guaranteed.
-
You may experience some discomfort, pressure or a pinching sensation during treatment. Our filler products contain a local anaesthetic, and additional comfort measures like numbing cream may be available depending on the area being treated. Your practitioner will explain what to expect before proceeding.
-
Longevity varies according to the product used, treatment area, amount injected and individual factors. There is no single timeframe that applies to everyone. Your practitioner can discuss realistic expectations for your proposed treatment. We expect our fillers to last a minimum of 9-12months, however some clients experience much longer results.
-
Swelling, tenderness, redness and bruising are common temporary effects. These usually improve over several days, although swelling can last longer, particularly following lip treatment. Your practitioner will provide individualised aftercare advice and explain when to seek medical assessment.
-
Yes. As with any injectable treatment, dermal filler carries risks, including bruising, swelling, infection, lumps and asymmetry. A rare but serious complication is vascular occlusion, where filler obstructs a blood vessel, potentially causing tissue damage or, in very rare cases, vision loss. These risks will be discussed during your consultation.
-
Certain hyaluronic acid fillers can be broken down using a dissolving agent. However, dissolving filler is a medical intervention with its own risks and is not guaranteed to resolve every concern.
-
Contact your practitioner promptly if you have concerns. Severe or increasing pain, unusual skin discolouration such as blanching or mottling, cool skin or any visual disturbance may indicate a serious complication requiring immediate assessment. Visual changes or suspected vascular occlusion are medical emergencies and must not wait for a routine appointment.
